Christmas Day has past, but the "Day of the Kings" is still to come. The tradition across the border in Mexico is to exchange most gifts on the Kings' day--celebrating their arrival in Bethlehem with gifts. Some scholars dispute whether the wisemen described in the bible were kings, but the image of giving gifts to the "new born King" still lives--across the many centuries.

Awaiting snow in Laredo Texas--ok it really did snow on Christmas Eve in 2004! We are 5 1/2 miles north of the Mexico/U.S. border, and the line of vehicles waiting to cross into Mexico stretches for miles. These assorted cars/trucks/and in between are loaded with gifts. The U.S. natives called the returning Mexicans "Paisanos"--which I believe is Italian for "friends"
